Zions Bank Champion of the Month

Zach Jones

Through the first three Utah Golf Association Player Performance Rankings events of 2019, Lone Peak High Senior Zach Jones went a combined 17-under in six rounds of golf to capture a second place finish and two wins. In recognition of his solid play to start the season, Jones has been named the Zions Bank Champion of the Month.

What year did you start playing golf?
I started playing competitive golf in 2011.

Who has been your biggest influence in golf?
My Dad, he introduced me to the game and has been my golf coach since then. 

What has been your biggest thrill in golf?
The biggest thrill I’ve had in golf is the back-9 in the 2018 Utah High School State Championship, and especially the 60-foot putt on the last hole to win the individual title.

What’s your dream foursome?
Tiger Woods (at his best), Jack Nicklaus (at his best) and Jordan Spieth. Basically, I want to see the match that nobody can see but everyone wants to see. And, at St Andrews. 

Best club in your bag?
My 3-wood is my favorite club.

What Utah tournament would you love to win?
The Utah State Amateur.

Do you have a golf good luck charm?
My Mom is my good luck charm. She comes to almost all of my tournaments.

What part of your game do you want to improve this year?
My wedges need to be better. I want hit them a little closer from the fairway and get up and down more often.
